The Händelstraße dormitory is located in Herdern, just northeast of the university. Before being converted for student use, the oldest of these buildings housed railroad workers and orphans – the storied past of this building can be glimpsed in its historic bell tower.
Behind the older House 20, you can find Händelstraße’s new additions – Händelstraße 18 A and 18 B, two recently-built dormitories. The units available in these new buildings are efficiencies, while the older building offers WG-style apartments (flat-sharing communities).
AYF rooms are in suites ranging from 5 to 10 rooms. Kitchens, common rooms, dining areas, bathrooms and showers are shared and co-ed. Efficiencies are available in the new buildings.
All dormitories in Händelstraße are nicely equipped and offer practice rooms for musicians, a café and enough space for activities indoors and in the courtyard.
The Händelstraße dormitory is located about 10 minutes by bike away from the city center. Additionally, tram stops and the train station “Freiburg-Herdern” are within walking distance.
