Welcome!

We look forward to greeting you in Freiburg!

The new Academic Year in Freiburg 2024-25 officially starts on Tuesday, September 2, 2024. We will set up a central reception center where AYF staff will assist you in checking into your dorm rooms, provide you with information materials, and help you with immediate questions you may have upon arrival.

All incoming AYF students must report to the reception center between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on September 2, 2024.

The location of the reception center and all other relevant information for your arrival in Freiburg will be shared with you via email.

It is not possible to check into your dorm room before September 2 (simply because we will not be able to obtain your keys on the weekend). Please read the information in your program handbook for suggestions where to stay prior to September 2, or use the hotel database on the City of Freiburg homepage.

If you have problems reaching the reception center on time, please call AYF as soon as possible at one of the following cell phone numbers to notify us of your arrival time:

Travel to Freiburg

Information on travel options to Freiburg is provided in your AYF Program Handbook which is available on the Guides & Information page of this website. In addition, train and bus schedules specifically for Arrival Day will be posted there as well.

Sending Mail to Germany

We recommend that AYF students have packages and/or letters sent directly to the AYF office (c/o Academic Year in Freiburg) in order to avoid common problems with international delivery to dormitory addresses. AYF will maintain a mailbox for each student in the main office, which you are expected to check regularly.

If sending a parcel or letter via U.S. mail (USPS), use the address listed below (including the student’s name).
